The 2011–12 VMI Keydets Hockey season was the team's sixth season overall and in the Blue Ridge Hockey Conference.

In the off-season, the BRHC made several changes to the conference divisions. The Maryland Terrapins became a member of the Atlantic Division on March 26. On May 12, the BRHC welcomed Elon to the conference as a Carolina Division member, sending UNC Wilmington to the Colonial. While Old Dominion departed to the Atlantoc this made the Atlantic, Carolina, and Colonial divisions have 10, 7, and 8 members, respectively.
